What Makes A Same-Day Drop Possible
Three things decide it: what time you call, what size you need, and where the container goes. Morning calls beat afternoon calls by a wide margin. A 15 yard or a 20 yard is far more likely to be sitting available than a 40, which tends to live on job sites for weeks at a time. And a clean driveway or lot placement can go in immediately, while a street set needing a right-of-way permit cannot happen today no matter who you call. If the size is flexible, say so — sometimes the gap between today and tomorrow is taking a 10 yard now and swapping it, and for dense material that is the better container anyway. Have the address with cross streets, the size or at least an honest description of the job, and the exact spot the container goes — driveway, alley, side lot or street. Tell us the surface and the slope, whether cars can be moved, and whether anything hangs overhead. Say what is going into it, because plaster, concrete and shingle change the size answer completely. If nobody will be on site, agree the placement by photo before the truck rolls out. One honest limit worth stating: in a February ice event we may not be able to get a truck safely onto a sloped drive, and we will not put a loaded container somewhere it can slide or freeze down. How late can I call and still get a container today?
Earlier is better and morning is best. There is no fixed cut-off we can promise, because it depends on where the trucks already are, what is sitting in the yard and how far out you are. A morning call for a common size on a driveway set inside the city has a strong chance. A late-afternoon call for a large container in a far suburb is realistically tomorrow, and we will say so straight away rather than string you along.
Is same-day delivery charged differently?
No. Our pricing is flat rate and it does not change because the delivery happens today rather than Thursday. What changes is availability, not the quote. What does affect the total is size, weight and how long you keep the container, and that is true of any booking with anybody. Ask when you call and you will get the figure up front rather than a surprise at the end of the job.
What if you cannot get here today?
Then you get next-day, and you hear it in the first minute of the call rather than after you have planned the whole day around it. Next-day covers most of the service area reliably, and swaps go out next morning too. If your timing is genuinely fixed — a closing, an inspection date, a crew already booked — tell us that at the start and we will work the schedule around the hard deadline.
Can you deliver same-day in a snow or ice event?
Sometimes, and sometimes we will tell you no. A hook truck needs traction and a straight approach, and a sloped Detroit driveway sheeted in ice is not a safe place to set a loaded container. Salt and plow windrows complicate the pull as well. In a hard February event we would rather push the drop by a day than wreck your apron. Michigan road conditions are published by MDOT, and conditions change hourly.
Do you need a permit for a same-day street placement?
Yes, and that is the one thing that usually rules today out. A container on a public street, alley right-of-way or parking lane needs city approval, and approvals are not issued within the hour. If the street is your only option, start the paperwork with the City of Detroit now and book the delivery for once it is in hand. Requirements and processing times do change.
